Forming Virtuous Catholic Men Through the Wilderness

Our Mission

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry dedicated to the spiritual formation of Catholic men through wilderness retreat, the sacraments, and authentic brotherhood.

The Fraternity of St. Hubert is first and foremost an organization of Catholic men, seeking to be who the Lord is calling us to be by embracing the masculinity presented by Jesus Christ, His adopted father St. Joseph, and the near-endless examples of saints and patriarchs who came before us. While our retreats pit men against nature and invite them into adventure, that is not our primary goal. At our core, our mission is to build a community of virtuous Catholic men, fighting toward salvation, who understand who they are and why they were made.

What Your Support Makes Possible

The Wilderness Apostolate

Mass in the Wild

Sacramental Life

Each retreat day begins with Holy Mass and the opportunity for confession — anchoring the entire adventure in grace.

Into the Wild

Wilderness Immersion

Transformative expeditions across the U.S. and around the world that allow men to pit themselves against creation with reverence.

The Fire

Fireside Fellowship

Evenings of meaningful conversation, fellowship, and reflection — forging bonds of brotherhood that endure long after the trip ends.

Renewal

Spiritual Renewal

Men return home with a renewed spirit and a reinvigorated sense of their role as husbands, fathers, and heads of their households.

“We must fight courageously, not only against visible enemies, but against invisible ones. For our struggle is with the devil, the world, and ourselves.”

St. Francis de Sales

The Founders

Stewards of the Mission

After a decade of conversations and much prayer, our founders united their passions for the Catholic faith, family, and the outdoors to serve devout Catholic men seeking to rekindle their true masculinity, rooted in their identity as Sons of God.

John Henry Spann on retreat

John Henry Spann

Co-Founder

Unapologetically Catholic, a husband of 14 years, father of six, and lifelong outdoorsman. Raised in the woods and waterways of Southwest Georgia, John Henry experienced a beautiful reversion to the Church and has since pursued big game across North America and Africa — discovering the deep connection between masculinity, adventure, and the presence of God.

Jonathan DeThomas in the wilderness

Jonathan DeThomas

Co-Founder

A regular guy in love with his Catholic faith since a major conversion at 16, Jonathan is raising six beautiful kids with his wife of 12 years. The outdoors has become his place of peace and solace — a place to encounter God and be still in the glory of His creation. As he learned firsthand: it truly does take a village.

Men on the 2025 Namibian retreat
From Our 2025 Namibian Retreat
“I did not anticipate the depth of friendship cultivated in such a short time. Every day since I have been back, I have felt even more closely connected to the guys, to God, and to His creation. I was expecting to have a great time on the hunt — I was not expecting the continued growth after returning. I am eternally grateful for this experience.”

Jason — Inaugural Retreat, Namibia 2025

“The nation doesn’t simply need what we have. It needs what we are.”
